CPS Chef Council Culinary Event at Carl Von Linne

We attended a special culinary event at Carl Von Linne Elementary School for the 2nd installment of the CPS Chef Council program. The Council was formalized to bring together noted chefs from across the city to provide new recipes for the school lunch program. NSS has worked to develop delicious, innovative meals that meet the highest nutritional guidelines of school lunches nationwide in collaboration with local chefs. The results of the Council include meals that reflect the essence of the Chef who inspired the dish and the essence of Chicago.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we got to try the excellent cooking of Beverly Kim, of Parachute Restaurant in the Von Linne cafeteria with the students. Chef Kim is a 2019 James Beard award recipient and her restaurant also received a Michelin-star.

Community Safety and Wellness Working Group Meeting at the Kedzie Center

Thank you to every one who showed up to our first Community Safety and Wellness Working Group meeting. This is a very important first step to increase cohesiveness and promote the wellness of our communities.

We shared our concerns, ideas, and vision for our community level anti-violence strategy which will include supporting victims and survivors through existing organizations like Israel’s Gift of Hope and The Kedzie Center, town halls, trainings and other initiatives to activate the public spaces in areas that have been more impacted by violence.

Special thank you to The Kedzie Center for hosting us. The Kedzie Center is our public-funded mental health clinic and we are incredibly fortunate to have them in our ward.

Documentary Screening of No Small Matter at the HANA Center

No Small Matter is a feature-length documentary film and national engagement campaign that brings public attention to this vital question by sharing powerful stories and stunning truths about the human capacity for early intelligence and the potential for quality early care and education to benefit America’s social and economic future. This multifaceted project reveals how our country is raising its youngest citizens, why making the most of this time in their lives is so crucial, and most importantly, what we can do to change the perception of when learning begins.
