Early February 21, our community was devastated with a fire that left 16 individuals without homes. The fire also destroyed two businesses, Twisted Hippo and Ultimate Ninjas on Montrose. After many hours of hard work from my staff and several community groups and with the generous outpouring of support from our neighbors, we have been able to provide some form of relief to almost every individual impacted by the fire. Due to COVID-19, the City's Department of Public Health will not be hosting the regular Flu Shot Walk-up Clinics around in the community but there are still a handful of upcoming events where you can get free flu shots with or without insurance. If you have insurance, you may call a local CVS or Walgreens pharmacy to schedule your flu shot. Our neighborhoods have been hurt and shaken by gun violence resulting from a series of gang conflicts that have escalated dramatically in recent days. Monday 2/17 (closed for President's Day) Tuesday 2/18 17th District CAPS Meeting // Beats 1724 & 1713 The 17th District CAPS team discussed the recent increase in crime. Robberies are up but the police have also made 3 arrests related to recent robberies. One of the individuals in custody is tied to over 12 robberies. There is another individual in custody related to a shooting incident from February 12 on the 3200 block of Belle Plaine. This individual is not affiliated with a gang.
