In our recent post where discussed Community Safety Action Steps we informed you about the Mayor’s recent commitment to bringing violence interruption to the 17th district through the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO), a member of Communities Partnering 4 Peace. This week we met with ALSO (you can read the notes here) to discuss how we will be working with the Mayor’s office to bring violence prevention services to our ward. Today, the Mayor spoke about her desire for a comprehensive approach to community safety in the city of Chicago. We will be meeting with the Mayor’s office to discuss this topic and we are looking forward to working with her on bringing these important services to the 33rd Ward. You can watch the press conference below:
“Chicago is ending the “law-enforcement-first and only” public safety strategy model. We discarded that at the start of my tenure because it doesn’t work. What Chicagoans deserve is a comprehensive approach, aimed at reaching the most vulnerable among us in the most vulnerable neighborhoods and that is precisely what we will continue to do. That mission demands a coordinated effort between city departments that focus on public health, family and support services, parks, schools, libraries and much more.”
