33rd Ward Newsletter – April 15, 2022

Kedzie Ave is FINALLY being resurfaced and paved from Foster all the way to Elston, which is nearly all of the 33rd Ward!

With all of the great input from our community and through several rounds of Participatory Budgeting, Kedzie will be getting some really exciting safety upgrades: bike lanes, a red stamped crosswalk, and curb extensions and bump outs.

*Latest update regarding 3601-3633 N California – Lexington Homes

After a series of community meetings and conversations with neighbors in the fall and winter of 2021, our office denied the rezoning application from Lexington Homes for the site located 3601-3633 N California in December of 2021. The applicant was seeking a zoning change from RT-4 / C1-1 to RM-5.5 and Residential Waterway PD, a change that the vast majority of our ward neighbors were opposed to. Our ward office’s letter of non- support concluded our Community Driven Zoning and Development (CDZD) process, a process that functions separately from city review processes.

Earlier this year, Lexington presented revised plans to the Department of Planning and Development (DPD). Per DPD, the application has been in an ongoing state of revision since its initial filing date. The project, however, has not been presented to our office with a request for rezoning. We are now awaiting DPD’s comments on Lexington Homes revisions and regardless of whether Lexington chooses to pursue a zoning change or not with our office, all parties have agreed to host another Public Community Meeting to discuss the revised plans in the very near future. This meeting will be hosted by our 33rd Ward Office and will include representatives from Lexington Homes, DPD, and a question and answer portion for our neighbors. Our office will continue to open up avenues to receive feedback and questions from neighbors and we remain committed to advocating for what neighbors feel is best for their communities. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our office at info@33rdward.org or call 773.840.7880.
