Spring Legislative Town Hall, July 7th
Join this town hall to learn more about victories from Spring Session and ask questions about what’s next!
During the town hall they’ll unpack the state budget, discuss funding to help support affordable housing and help end homelessness, and updates on ongoing support to asylum seekers.
The town hall will be held at Kosciuszko (Koz) Park in Logan Square on Friday, July 7. The evening will kick-off with free tacos and refreshments at 5:30pm and the town hall will get underway at 6:00pm.

City of Chicago Procurement Symposium, July 13th
DPS will host its 10th annual Procurement Symposium (formerly known as the Vendor Fair) on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 9AM to 5PM at Malcolm X College.
The full-day event will feature workshops, resources, and panel discussions with the City of Chicago and its Sister Agencies. State, Federal, and anchor organization partners will also participate in the event and provide guidance and resources. Mayor Brandon Johnson will deliver the opening address.
Additional event highlights include:
• Keynote Address from LaForce Baker, V.P. Community Impact, World Business Chicago
• More than 80 exhibitor tables staffed by the City of Chicago and Assist Agencies, Sister Agencies, and not-for-profit organizations

Tickets are now on sale for the 5th Annual Craft Brew Festival in Horner Park on Friday, July 21st from 6 pm- 10 pm. Sponsored by the Horner Park Advisory Council, The Horner Brew Fest is the largest of its kind on the northwest side of Chicago – this year featuring over 30 local craft brewers and an array of food trucks.
Held under the trees on the front lawn of beautiful Horner Park, it’s the perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbors while enjoying live music and sampling the best local beers and ciders available. The Brew Fest is a fundraiser to support the sustainability initiatives in Horner Park including improvements along the park’s restored river front and get Horner Park recognized as an internationally-accredited arboretum.

UR Chicago Alliance Employment Opportunities
UR Chicago Alliance is a faith-based work development program that unites and mobilizes churches, community organizations, and businesses to provide access to living-wage opportunities and long-term support through a network of Christ-centered relationships. URCA’s focus is on:
- Job Readiness and Life Skills Training: We provide 8-week training using the Chalmers Center job preparedness curriculum. We provide program participants with access to technology and coaching in digital literacy, resume building, interviewing, networking, and code switching.
- Long-Term Mentorship: Each program participant is paired with a mentor from the local community for 18 months who provides support as they pursue living-wage work.
- Community Partnerships: Our robust network of community partners helps address issues related to poverty and unemployment including adult education classes, counseling, financial literacy, and others.
- Employment Partnerships: URCA maintains an active pipeline of employer partnerships, and we regularly update Leaders on job opportunities. Once placed, our program participants earn wages ranging from $15 to $46 per hour with benefits for full-time positions.
