Zoning Update: Lexington Homes Proposal for former Gordon Technical High School
The community and the 33rd Ward Office do not support Lexington Homes’ proposal.
Furthermore, as you may have heard, the City of Chicago’s ward boundaries will change as of next year – following the 2023 municipal election. The new ward boundaries will unite California Park and the former Gordon Tech site with portions of Irving Park and Avondale in the 35th Ward.
We have spoken with 35th Ward Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa and he has committed to not supporting a zoning change at the former Gordon Tech site until the completion of a robust community process, and that – like us – he does not support Lexington Homes’ proposal.
Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa is well known for his work on historic preservation and his robust community-driven zoning process – his zoning process that has been recognized as a model by national policy think-tanks and urban planning academics.
As can sometimes be the case with high profile development proposals like this one, there have been some rumors and inaccuracies shared about this development proposal. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact us or contact Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa with any questions or concerns regarding this or any other city matter.
